Tiffany (Tiffany Darwish) was immortalized in Fall of 1987 for her hit song, “I Think We’re Alone Now” and went to No. 1 on Billboard 200 in the US, Canada (Canadian Albums Chart), and New Zealand (RMNZ).
At the age of 16, Tiffany became the youngest recording Artist to hold the No. 1 spot. What many people didn’t realize, Tiffany’s hit single was originally a cover written by Tommy James & The Shondells. Cover or not, “I Think We’re Alone Now” played a vital role in making the 80’s as memorable as it was, but her hit single didn’t get to No. 1 on its own. The song needed some help from her fans from the summer tour.
After the failure of her first single “Danny,” Tiffany went on Tour during the summer of 1987 and she did something very different. She called it, “The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour” earning her title “Queen of the Mall”. Over the course of three months, Tiffany’s popularity started to take off and by the end of summer, her new fans began calling local radio stations all over the US demanding to hear her new single “I Think We’re Alone Now”. As a result, these efforts quickly catapulted her new song to No. 1.
Tiffany’s unconventional touring strategy proved to be the most innovative idea that directly helped her sell over 4 million records worldwide and earning her pop star status.
