Mary Jane Girls, protégés of Rick James, are best known for their hits “In My House,” “All Night Long,” “Candy Man,” ‘ Break It Up,” “Wild And Cazy Love,” and their cover version of “Walk Like A Man.”
Ray Parker, Jr. created Raydio in 1977, with vocalists Arnell Carmichael and Jerry Knight. Knight, the lead singer on the group’s first big hit, “Jack and Jill,” in 1978. Other group members were Larry Tolbert, Darren Carmichael, and Charles Fearing. The group had another Top Ten R&B and pop hit with “You Can’t Change That” in 1979, and then “Two Places at the Same Time” reached number six R&B in 1980. They topped the R&B charts in 1981 with “A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do),” which also peaked at number four pop. All their songs and LPs were recorded for Arista. The current incarnation of Raydio features original member Arnell Carmichael.
AALON, The Rock and Roll Gangster, is a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, musician, multi-instrument programmer, poet, author and performer. His debut album Cream City for Clive Davis’ Arista Records hit 45th on the Billboard R&B Album Chart in 1978, while the title song “Cream City” hit 44th on the R&B Singles Charts. AALON’s legendary song “Rock and Roll Gangster” has become a classic and can be heard daily on radio stations across the U.S. and Europe and is featured in the TV Series “The Boondocks, The Story of Gangstalicious 2”. AALON also wrote and recorded radio hits “Magic Night” and “Summer Love”.
AALON composed and recorded two albums with Eric Burdon (of The Animals & WAR) for Capital Records. AALON also wrote “Forever Now” for the legendary songstress Eloise Laws.
