Event Details

The Glenn Miller Orchestra was originally formed in the 1930s, spawning 17 Top 10 hits including “Sunrise Serenade,” “Moonlight Serenade” “Wishing (Will Make It So),” and the chart-toppers “Stairway To The Stars,” “Moon Love,” “Over The Rainbow,” “Blue Orchids,” and “The Man With The Violin.”

In 1940 “Tuxedo Junction” sold 115,000 copies the first week, and by the mid 1940s the Glenn Miller Orchestra had racked up another 24 Top 10s, including “Careless,” “When You Wish Upon A Star,” “Fools Rush In,” “In The Mood,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo” (which became their first million-seller – and the first Gold Record ever awarded to a performing artist!), “Song Of The Volga Boatman” ‘Don’t Sit Under The Appletree,” “That Old Black Magic,” and more.

Miller was the subject of a partly fictionalized film biography, The Glenn Miller Story, starring James Stewart, and in 2003 was posthumously received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Today, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is a fully self-contained group consisting of the music director, five saxophone players, four trumpeters, four trombonists, and three rhythm musicians (piano, bass and drums). Also, there are two vocalists, one male, and one female, who perform individually and as part of The Moonlight Serenaders vocal group.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra performs for more than a half million people annually and is considered a standard in the field of popular music with its popularity undiminished through the more than 75 years since Glenn Miller first succeeded with the Orchestra.
