You feel the soul in Texas powerhouse singer Teresa James. Her sound is soulful, seductive and gritty. Teresa has been described as singing like a cross between Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt and playing piano “like Dr. John’s little sister”. She has been considered among the elite female soul blues singers of all time. Her persuasive pipes slathered in honey and soaked in Texas-bred sass, keyboardist Teresa James and her six-piece band, the Rhythm Tramps, have long reigned as a leading contemporary blues outfit.
Teresa is currently nominated for Contemporary Female Blues Artist by the 44th Annual International Blues Foundation Music Awards.
They won 2022 for Best Blues Soul Artist, Best R&B/Soul CD Rose Colored Glasses, Best R&B/Soul Song “Rose Colored Glasses by Independent Blues Music Awards.
Their 2019 CD “Here in Babylon” was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Contemporary Blues Album category.
In 2013 they were voted Best Contemporary Blues Band of the Year by Independent Music Awards.
2012 release “Come On Home” was voted Best Blues CD By Independent Music Awards.
Their 2010 CD, You Know You Love It, was a finalist for an Independent Music Award (IMA).
Their 2008 release, The Bottom Line, garnered her a nomination by the International Blues Foundation for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year
Their latest release Rose-Colored Glasses, on Blue Heart Records, is their 12th album and once again showcases Teresa’s enticing way with a lyric and Terry’s prolific songwriting talent, poured over grooves that’ll grab listeners and refuse to let go until the very last notes have rung. “This new album is kind of veering a little bit more into soul,” says Teresa. “But to me, blues is more of a state of mind. It’s where you’re coming from. It’s the attitude and the heart that you bring to it.”
