Event Details

The Lovin’ Spoonful were America’s answer to the Beatles! The band, led by John Sebastian, Steve Boone, Joe Butler and Zal Yanovsky, exploded onto the charts sending their first 7 singles soaring onto Billboard’s top-10 charts virtually overnight.

The Spoonful formed in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1965 at the Night Owl Café and signed to Kama Sutra Records. They appeared on every major TV show of the era: The Ed Sullivan Show, Hullabaloo and Shindig!

Their first single, “Do You Believe in Magic,” flew to the top of the charts and was followed by an unprecedented string of hits including: “Daydream,” “Younger Girl,” “Summer in the City,” “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” “Darling Be Home Soon,” “Jug band Music,” “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind,” “Lovin’ You,” “Didn’t Want to Have to Do it,” “Rain on the Roof,” “Six O’clock,” “Nashville Cats,” “Coconut Grove,” and “She’s Still a Mystery (to Me).”

The band was so influential that such music legends as Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson cited them as forces of inspiration as did so many others. John Lennon call them “tunesmiths!”

Today the Lovin’ Spoonful tours with founding member, Steve Boone, and Jeff Alan Ross, Bill Cinque, Rob Bonfiglio and Mike Auturi. Together they faithfully celebrate the rich, good-time catalog of hits that made them one of the world’s most beloved groups of the ‘60s.

The Lovin’ Spoonful was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

The Grass Roots continue to bring their timeless pop-rock sound to audiences across North America, powered by a lineup of seasoned musicians who honor the band’s legendary legacy.

Dusty Hanvey (Lead Guitar, Vocals, Road Manager) has been an integral part of the band for more than 39 years, delivering the signature guitar work and harmonies that define The Grass Roots’ enduring sound.

Larry Nelson (Keyboards, Vocals), also with the band for over 39 years, recreates the unmistakable keyboard lines behind classics like “Temptation Eyes” and “Midnight Confessions,” thrilling audiences night after night.

Joe Dougherty (Drums) has spent 38+ years driving the rhythm behind the band’s catalog of hits, energizing fans that span generations.

Mark Dawson (Lead Vocals, Bass) joined 18 years ago and powerfully carries the classic Grass Roots sound forward, delivering the hits just the way fans remember them.

Formed in 1965 with founding member Rob Grill and producer Steve Barri, The Grass Roots became one of rock’s most successful hitmakers. The band charted 29 singles (13 gold), earned two gold albums and one platinum album, and sold more than 20 million records worldwide. Only nine bands in rock history — including The Beatles — have charted more Billboard Hot 100 hits.

With over 50 national television appearances — including The Tonight Show, The Today Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand (a record 16 times), and many more — The Grass Roots have remained a staple of Classic Rock radio for nearly five decades, averaging over 100 live performances per year.

Among their many milestones: performing for 600,000 people in Washington, D.C. on July 4, 1982, and spending an incredible 307 consecutive weeks on the Billboard charts between 1967 and 1972.
